Stephen R. Braswell Senior Advisor
"If a man has a talent and can not use it, he has failed. If he has a talent and uses only half of it, he has partly failed. If he has a talent and learns somehow to use the whole of it, he has gloriously succeeded, and won a satisfaction and a triumph few men ever know."
- Thomas Wolfe
Steve Braswell's years of business experience has happened during the "coming of age" in the information explosion in corporate America. He has played a leadership role in a dramatic change in the work environment for senior executives. As he comments, "This has been an experience of a lifetime - learning not only how to recognize the talents required, but most importantly how to maximize those talents."
During 34 years with Prudential, a $500 billion financial services company, Steve essentially served as the company's most senior "utility player" - taking on various assignments in order to address the organization's most pressing challenges in the areas of management, governance, human resources and communications. He was able to accomplish this based on the respect he had earned from all of the various business unit and subsidiary company heads as well as the CEO and The Board.
"Working with key executives, helping them grow, develop and achieve more than they ever thought they could was a large part of my 'compensation package'. The process of working with senior people required candor, tough-love and direct conversation - not in the context of criticism but rather that of a helpmate. I cared and wanted to see them succeed big time!"
- Stephen Braswell
Since retiring from Prudential, Steve has been a consultant to a large multi-national financial institution. Working with the CEO, he has assisted with succession planning, hiring and developing external resources, and designing developmental internal moves for high potential managers to prepare them for more senior roles in the company.
