Advisor Profiles
David S. Fowler Vice-Chairman, Advisorship Services
"It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the ones most responsive to change."
- Charles Darwin
David Fowler understands the changes and challenges senior leaders face today. With 37 years experience at The Chubb Corporation, a $12 billion financial services company, serving as a subsidiary CEO, Vice Chairman and a Senior Executive in Operations, Marketing, IT and HR, David has established a reputation as an engaging, energetic and empowering leader and a highly effective mentor. He led and implemented talent management strategies that supported revenue growth from $1.2 to $7.2 billion and has guided successful executive team alignments and succession planning at the highest levels.
"Throughout my career, I have embraced feedback and development. I attribute my success as a leader to the ability not only to provide support, but also to seek it out for myself. I believe that sustainable success in leadership roles depends on one's ability to be in a constant "teaching and learning" dynamic. The teaching component helps to guide and direct others and the learning part seeks and utilizes perspectives from a variety of trusted resources.
Ideally, an environment of respect, trust and candor should exist between the CEO and board members, but such a dynamic appears to be rare in today's corporate governance environment. Similarly, the relationship with the executive team members generally involves information flows that are heavily filtered. As a result, it has become increasingly "lonely at the top" for many executives. An agenda-free confidant and advisor can serve as a powerful antidote to the isolation felt by today's CEOs and other senior leaders."
- David Fowler
In addition to serving as a much sought after internal "coach" during his tenure at Chubb, David has developed a reputation among his clients as an inspiring collaborator with deep and practical expertise. He views Advising as a highly creative process where he and the client are involved in a conversation leading to insights, opportunities and action steps that neither could have discovered alone.
